If you didn't know, we are currently in the month of March. Also, if
you didn't know it was March, you shoulden't be using a computer.
Anyway, with March comes St. Patrick's Day. The Irish holiday is
celebrated every year on the 17th of March. There are many fun things
to do on St. Patrick's Day! Some restaurants have big celebrations,
and some people also have parties. There is only one thing that I
personally dislike about the day, coming home to the smell of my Mom's
corned beef & cabbage, SICK. (She's probably gonna read this too...)
Anyway even if your not Irish, go out and have a good time with your
friends and enjoy being Irish for a day!

Thu, 01 Mar 2012 10:05:28 -0800 NEW YORK! http://wltlradio.posterous.com/new-york http://wltlradio.posterous.com/new-york Today is a pretty exciting day. I am making my way up to New York
tonight along with 5 other managers. We're going to be attending IBS's
72nd Annual Radio Conference! There are going to be more than 100
seminars for us to attend. There will also be tours and live music
events! Woo! We will be side by side with professionals participating
in the panels as well. I'm personally excited to learn more about
production and advance my skill in that area of work. You never can
learn too much about production. There are other workshops such as
ones that are associated with on-air personalities, making your own
program guide for your station, and so much more. All of us will be
returning Sunday night with more knowledge and handy skills for the
radio world. (All I know is that I don't want to come back 5 pounds
heavier from all the pizza...)

Thu, 23 Feb 2012 14:31:08 -0800 Just How Good is Kentucky? http://wltlradio.posterous.com/just-how-good-is-kentucky http://wltlradio.posterous.com/just-how-good-is-kentucky
Hey sports B Fox here and with March Madness just around the corner, a team many analysts are picking to win it all is Kentucky. But in all honesty, there are quite a few unknowns with this squad. We do know that they had challenging yet manageable non-conference schedule and only sustained one loss, to Christian Watford and Indiana. Since then, however, they have only played in the ridiculously soft SEC. If not for the laughably bad Pac-12, the SEC would hands-down be the weakest "Power Conference" in the nation (I would say that even the Mountain West is stronger). The top tier of the SEC is flimsy besides Kentucky, with Florida and Mississippi State not inspiring a ton of confidence. And the SEC has arguably the worst bottom tier in the land, with Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, and Ole Miss all playing putrid basketball. The trouble with all this is that we haven't seen Kentucky match up with a comparable team in quite some time. In a way this kentucky team reminds me of John Calipari's former teams at Memphis--you never knew just how good they were because Conference USA was so weak.

Why am I bringing all of this up? Because I believe the national champion will be North Carolina. Now I'm sure there are people out there who think that Kentucky's 73-72 victory over the Tar Heels all the way back on December 3 proves who the better team is. I'm definitely going to call shenanigans on that. North Carolina is one of the few teams that can play and beat Kentucky at their own game: they have a more prolific offense, pull down 7 more rebounds per contest, and are very unselfish. That's all for me--just remember to tune in to the first round of the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament on March 13.

This past weekend was President's Day weekend and here at WLTL that
means one thing and one thing only... Rock-A-Thon! And this year was a
serious win for us. We were on the air for 88.1 straight hours from
Friday at 5 AM to Monday at 9 PM. The 2011 record was over $22,000 and
we were set to break that no problem, but since this was the 30th year
of Rock-A-Thon we decided to go for $30,000. And on Monday at 9 PM our
total was at $30,818! We went 30 for 30! Thanks to everyone who
donated and everyone who spent their weekend in the studio raising
money! We did it everybody!!!!!

Guess what’s coming up? That’s right, it’s President’s day weekend and
that means Rockathon is coming up! If you’re wondering what Rockathon
is, then here is your chance to find out and how to get involved!

Rockathon is our annual fundraiser here at WLTL, where we broadcast
88.1 hours straight, starting at 5 AM on this Friday. We need this
money to upgrade our studio and broadcast for you! Over the years we
have used money from Rockathon to equip a new production board,
broadcast online, and upgrade equipment for sports, engineering, and
other departments here at WLTL. This year we need money to purchase
two new Axia digital boards that will help us broadcast better for
you.

Over the years, we have beaten each amount of fundraising each year.
Last year, we raised $22,283, which was a Rockathon record. Let’s stay
on the track that we’re on and break that record once again!

This is our 30th anniversary of Rocakthon. In fact, this year there
will be a alumni show during Rockathon on Saturday from 6 AM to noon.
We’ll also have shows from sports, as well as managers and staffers
who will help fundraise for Rockathon.

So the question is, how can YOU get involved? Well that’s easy! All
you have to do is call in at 482-9585 (482-WLTL) and pledge money! You
can also view us on LTTV throughout the weekend.

So tune in to the 30th anniversary of Rockathon this weekend, starting
at 5 AM on Sunday, and donate to WLTL!

Mon, 06 Feb 2012 14:50:17 -0800 Lady Gaga....I Mean Madonna's Super Bowl Half Time Show http://wltlradio.posterous.com/lady-gagai-mean-madonnas-super-bowl-half-time http://wltlradio.posterous.com/lady-gagai-mean-madonnas-super-bowl-half-time
Hey it's Camille here! If you were like me and most of America then on Sunday February 5th you were fixated to a television screen, food in lap, entranced by the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl has many components to its program, the pre-game, the game, the commercials and last but not least the half-time show.

This year Madonna graced the half-time stage of Super Bowl XLVI. Middle aged women were ecstatic, their husbands...eh not so much. As usual the stage set-up for the show was very elaborate. Lots of lights, cameras, and for lack of a better word action. Madonna came out onto the stage carried by chiseled gladiators , surrounded by what seemed like gigantic peacock feathers. She went up onstage and started to do her Madonna thang. The shoes she wore did not help accommodate the dance moves  choreographed for the number. A wipe-out appeared evident, yet none occurred. Madonna even brought out some "very special" guests including, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, MIA and Cee Lo Green.

LMFAO was a fun element to the performance remixing the music into their hit single "Party Rock Anthem". It seemed to make Madonna more relatable to those under 20. Nicki Minaj and MIA were incorporated into Madonna's new song. Nicki rapped a verse, and MIA decided to flip the bird at NBC cameramen. Finally Cee Lo looked "Crazy" adding absolutely nothing to Madonna's hit song "Like A Prayer". The only things he added to the stage was more glitter. The performance ended with Madonna falling through a trap door and the stage illuminated the words World Peace.

Nothing says World Peace more than a football game.

Wed, 01 Feb 2012 16:42:06 -0800 A Rey In Music http://wltlradio.posterous.com/a-rey-in-music http://wltlradio.posterous.com/a-rey-in-music

Hey there! Lisa Jonas, co-music director here reviewing Lana Del Rey’s latest album Born To Die, launched this past Tuesday, January 31st. The album is perfect for a relaxed vibe, and catches a listener's attention though beautiful melodies and striking vocals. The album has been much anticipated, and is predicted to debut at No. 2 on the billboard 200 chart next week, according to billboard.com. The album has topped the iTunes chart in over 14 countries, and it’s melodies are worth checking out for indie music lovers.

This album is Del Rey’s second album. The opening track, “Born To Die” has a cinematic effect, as Del Rey’s seductive voice sings on about falling and love and the journey of keeping a relationship.  The overall theme of the album is a romantic, carefree yet mature tone. Some critics say it is melodramatic, but each song possesses its own story. Del Rey sings in a distinct, elaborate style with a mature voice, yet still captures the beauty of being young within her lyrics. Del Rey’s style is loved by indie hipsters, but is still technically categorized as pop.

Lana Del Rey first went under her name Lizzie Grant, but adopted this stage name for something that “sounded beautiful”. Her first album was released in January 2010, but is no longer found on iTunes. Del Rey gained attention with her self-made music video “Video Games” in August 2011, which has gotten wildly popular. “Born To Die” is her first release on the major label of Interscope records. Though Del Rey has gotten much criticism for not having a stage presence on her performance on SNL and for “inauthenticity” and “tedious” songs, it is up to each person to form their own opinion on for this rising album.

As always, listen to WLTL for singles off of “Born To Die”, and more!

Recommended tracks: Blue Jeans, Diet Mountain Dew, National Anthem, Video Games, Summertime Sadness

Tue, 31 Jan 2012 16:13:16 -0800 FFFN is now on Wednesdays?!?! http://wltlradio.posterous.com/fffn-is-now-on-wednesdays http://wltlradio.posterous.com/fffn-is-now-on-wednesdays Hello loyal readers!

I'm Karl Laubacher and I hope that all of you are very excited for the second semester of shows on WLTL! They started yesterday and we're all very happy with our on-air DJ talent! For those of who didn't know, I have a talk show with my good friend and music director, Collin Thomas, called FFFN (pronounced Triple F N.).  This was a part time creation we had on Friday nights at 11 o'clock after our regular programming is over, but no longer! We have moved to the big time, know as Wednesday nights from 7 to 8.  Yes, we know it’s no longer a Friday night thing, so we should adjust the name, but FFFN rolled off the tongue too well for us to change it.  For all of you wonder what in the heck FFFN is, well Collin and I just talk about some topics that interest us and sometimes we get on tangents and ramble and sometimes we get silly and argue about some very ridiculous things.  But we keep it light hearted and fun, but we need you to get in on the action! During our show, one of us is checking the FFFN twitter feed for listen feed back, so tweet at us during the show using the name @FFFNradio to answer a poll question or just to say hi! We also have a blog that has been mostly football as of right now, at fffn.posterous.com so be sure to check in often to see what were up to.  We love our fans and we think they are the best in radio land, so let us know who you are!

Keep listening!

Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:03:27 -0800 The Pro Bowl? http://wltlradio.posterous.com/the-pro-bowl http://wltlradio.posterous.com/the-pro-bowl Well it’s that time of year again.  No I’m not talking about the Super Bowl, I’m talking about the Pro Bowl.  Yes, you hear me right, one of the worst “all-star” games that can be seen on television.  This game is a joke, and that’s what 99% of America takes it as.  Nothing more, nothing less.  The NBA has the best All Star game by far, because the players lay their heart out on the court, playing their hardest to represent their team and league to their fullest.  Baseball, there is something to play for, home field advantage.  True it may seem stupid, but it makes it interesting because the players play their heart out for that privilege in the World Series.  In the NFL though, players go half hearted with nothing at stake, and that they don’t want to injure anyone.  One play I can remember last year was that Adrian Peterson shedded off a wimpy Polomalu tackler.  In the regular season, Troy would have gone full speed if it was the regular season, and taken him down in a sinch.  Give the players some incentive to play for, this would make it better to watch(also good job moving the Pro Bowl to the weekend before the Super Bowl, more viewers that way).

Alex Smart, Rock-a-thon Director here.  Our once a year, continuous 88.1 hour fundraiser called Rock-a-thon is a mere month away!  The event is from Friday, February 17th to Monday, February 20th and is simulcasted on the high school television station, LTTV.  This is the one time of the year that we ask the community for its support through pledges and donations to help us improve the station and in order for us to continue to effectively service the community, which is our goal as a station.  Rock-a-thon is always a lot of fun, so be sure to keep listening to WLTL and checking out our website as Rock-a-thon 2012 gets closer!

Also coming up is a pre-Rock-a-thon fundraiser on Tuesday, February 7th at the Westchester McDonald's on 31st Street and Wolf Road.  We are going to be there from 4-8 PM playing music and giving away merchandise to try and raise money that will go toward Rock-a-thon 2012!  We will be posting a flyer on our website and Facebook pages that you can bring into McDonald's stating that 25% of your purchase will go directly to WLTL, which is a great way for you to support us!  Also by coming to the event, you can meet Julianontheradio from the B96 Morning Show, J and Julian, from 4-6 PM with a special Ronald McDonald appearance at 5:30!  Be sure to stay tuned to WLTL and the continue to check the website as we will be posting more info soon about that event!

But in the mean time, keep listening to WLTL La Grange where everything else is just radio!

Mon, 16 Jan 2012 20:33:50 -0800 Welcome Back To Reality http://wltlradio.posterous.com/welcome-back-to-reality http://wltlradio.posterous.com/welcome-back-to-reality

Well its back to reality. School is back and with it are all the frustrations. However there is one light in this dark abyss. What is that you may ask? It’s WLTL of course. Coming back after couple weeks off to a new semester is never easy, but since we have to at least WLTL is there to have some fun. I mean at least its easy right not like we have big things coming up like tryouts and Rock-A-Thon, only two of the biggest events of the year for us not a big deal. I guess when we all come back from vacations its never easy and we all have thing we left on our desk that we have to deal with when we return. Whether we like it or not work must be done. There is a second thing for us seniors though. It’s our final semester at WLTL. Its hard not to be excited for the future and the adventures it holds for us. The hard part is leaving places like WLTL behind. Now is the time for doing because for us seniors there is no more next year, next semester, next week, because if we wait, we leave it to the next year. The people the memories, experiences, and bonds formed will out last our time at WLTL, but we never will be able to go back in time and sit in the station and finish what we failed to finish.  As we go through our bitter sweet last semester at WLTL all f us have to finish strong, especially us second semester seniors.

Hey Err’body. Matt Reynolds here. How do most of you feel about today’s mainstream pop music? I’m going to assume that most of you do not appreciate it because you listen to our station. But for the people that care, here’s my report of the MTV top artists of 2011 countdown.

They started off the countdown with #10 Justin Beiber. Not too much I can say about the guy except for the fact that I’m jealous about all the girls he could have…..He released his movie “Never Say Never” and also released a Christmas album which featured the recently popular song “Under the Mistletoe.”

At #9 was the rapper/singer Drake. Now, Drizzy gets a lot of critisism from people these days, saying things like, “He should get back in his wheel-chair and go back on Degrassi,” but I’ve got to give the guy some credit. This was a pretty big year for him, appearing on songs with Rihanna, Lil’ Wayne, and DJ Khalid. He also released his second album called “Take Care” which sold more than 750,000 copies in the first week.

Skipping ahead a little, at number 4 we have The Throne. Who is the throne some of you might ask? Well it’s the new superstar team featuring the king’s of hip-hop, Jay-Z and Kanye West. Their album “Watch the Throne” is one (maybe the best) of the rap/hip-hop albums released this year. I’m super excited to hear more from the team, and I hope their friendship will last a very long time.

At #3 we have Adele. What can I say? She has the voice of a god. Not many singers can hit the notes she does. She’s had countless hits this year. She definatly deserves this position on the countdown.

For more on the top 10 artists of 2011, check www.MTVNews.com or just click on this link     à http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1675981/best-artists-2011.jhtml

Tue, 13 Dec 2011 16:04:15 -0800 The Downfall of a Party http://wltlradio.posterous.com/the-downfall-of-a-party http://wltlradio.posterous.com/the-downfall-of-a-party
Hey everyone, this is Assistant Program Director and News Director Brendan Dzwierzynski. Now, anyone who has been paying attention to politics recently has seen the seemingly self-destructive behavior of the Republican Party as of late, and this extends well beyond the mysterious personal life of Herman Cain. Speaking of Cain, the Georgian officially suspended his Presidential Campaign and the 999 Plan, in order to focus on other political goals. Apparently, on his agenda was to memorize quotes from the Pokemon Movie, but I digress. Newt Gingirch has became the latest flavor of the week for the GOP, garnering more and more support as Mitt Romney's numbers fall. Romney's falling numbers come as no surprise to some voters, however, when the man who was once a commanding frontrunner is now throwing around $10,000 wagers, as if people aren't struggling for every single dollar they earn these days. And then the always polarizing, always controversial Rick Perry seemingly does not know what is actually going on in Washington, considering he doesn't ever know what he's talking about. He also recently released an ad, which has angered so many people, that people have moved on to even more unlikely candidates, i.e. Ron Paul. Nonetheless though, with Newt Gingrich in the driver's seat, I frankly can not see how Obama does not win re-election. An extremely divided Republican Party does not seem like a solid attack to take down the current President.

Thu, 08 Dec 2011 10:47:33 -0800 Internet Safety http://wltlradio.posterous.com/internet-safety http://wltlradio.posterous.com/internet-safety
Christine Pond here!

Last week, I had a chance to sit down and talk to Alan Krok, a detective with the Chicago Police Department in the special investigations unit. He investigates crimes against children involving the internet. The biggest crimes that his department investigates are instances of cyber bullying, child pornography, and sexual predators using Facebook to meet young children. “Kids have to realize when they go online to spread rumors and to be mean to somebody else; everything that they post is usually saved and can be accessed. There is no way to remain anonymous on the internet,” said Alan. All of the information that he shared with me was a big reality check. It is important to keep your privacy settings on private, and to think before you post online. Did you know that if your Facebook account is hacked, there is a 95% it was hacked by someone you know...?

Make sure to listen to WLTL for my new PSA concerning internet safety.

Sun, 04 Dec 2011 15:51:31 -0800 Final Heisman Ballot http://wltlradio.posterous.com/final-heisman-ballot http://wltlradio.posterous.com/final-heisman-ballot
Hey gang it's B Fox here with my final Heisman ballot. As you may recall LaMichael James was my front-runner at the beginning of the year and I believe he still should win the award. However, he did not play a full slate of games so he is ineligible for the award. That being said, here is my final Heisman ballot.

5 (tie). Case Keenum (QB, Houston)

For my non-AQ conference pick, it came down to Keenum and Kellen Moore, but in the end Keenum's video game-like numbers won out. The upset loss to Southern Miss ruins any chance he had for this award.
(Final season stats: 383 of 534, 71.7%, 5,099 yards 45 TDs, 5 INTs, 177.87 rating, 3 rushing TDs)

5 (tie). Matt Barkley (QB, USC)

Barkley could very easily have been the best QB in the Pac-12, but Andrew Luck finishes ahead of him based on Stanford's win over USC. Had USC been eligible for postseason play, it is very plausible that they could have beaten Oregon and won the Pac-12 title. As it is, they had to settle for demolishing UCLA (the eventual title-game opponent of Oregon) 50-0. That is not a typo. Neither are Barkley's numbers from that game: 35-42 for 423 yards and 6 TDs! As much as I despise USC, I have to tip my cap to Matt Barkley on a phenomenal season.
(Final season stats: 308 of 446, 69%, 3,528 yards, 39 TDs, 7 INTs, 161.22 rating, 2 rush TDs)

4. Andrew Luck (QB, Stanford)

I really shouldn't have to tell you who this is, so I won't. It was impossible for Luck to live up to the preseason hype, but he failed to impress me the way my top 3 did. The NFL skills are there; he just didn't have a Heisman season.
(Final season stats: 261 of 376, 69.4%, 3,170 yards, 35 TDs, 9 INTs, 166.16 rating, 153 rush yards, 2 TDs)
3. Trent Richardson (RB, Alabama)

Quiet down all you SEC elitists. How many rushing TDs did Richardson have against FBS teams with winning records? 2! How many did Montee Ball have? 14. I rest my case.
(Final season stats: 263 carries, 1,583 yards, 6.0 ypc, 20 rush TDs, 27 receptions, 327 yards,3 receiving TDs)

2. Montee Ball (RB, Wisconsin)

Ball is set to break the NCAA FBS single season record for touchdowns in the Rose Bowl against Oregon. Not only is he first in rushing TDs, he is first in rushing yards as well. I would say that's a pretty good year.
(Final season stats: 275 carries, 1,759 rush yards, 6.4 ypc, 32 rush TDs, 20 receptions, 255 yards, 6 receiving TDs)

1. Robert Griffin III (QB, Baylor)

If RG3 does not win the Heisman, it will be an absolute outrage. He engineered game-winning drives against TCU and Oklahoma (did I mention he goes to Baylor, not exactly a football powerhouse?). He is consistently been the most electrifying dual threat quarterback (and player) in the FBS this year. All that was missing from RG3's resume was a dominating performance against a top defense. That can be checked off now. In a 48-24 win over Texas (who came into the came with the 9th ranked defense in the country) RG3 threw for 320 yards and accounted for 4 TDs. There should be no question about the best player in the nation as he finished #1 in passing efficiency and rating and #2 in passing yards.
(Final season stats: 267 of 369, 72.3%, 3,998 yards, 36 TDs, 6 INTs, 192.31 rating, 161 carries, 644 rush yards, 9 TDs)

That's all for me. Thanks for reading.

Thu, 01 Dec 2011 10:12:50 -0800 Grammy Nominations http://wltlradio.posterous.com/grammy-nominations http://wltlradio.posterous.com/grammy-nominations
Hi Everyone, Jonathan here!

The Grammy nominations are in! This year's leader for top awards is controversial rapper Kanye West, Adele, The Foo Fighters, and Bruno Mars. The awards will be held at The Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Feruary 12th. Kanye West leads in nominations with a whopping seven in total including best song for his track All of the Lights. The best new artist category has the surprising addition of the dubstep artist Skrillex as well as Bon Iver. Who's going to win? Only time will tell, but it's definitely going to be an interesting race.
So until next time, keep reading blogs and listening to music!

Tue, 29 Nov 2011 17:27:15 -0800 I hope I was on the good list.... http://wltlradio.posterous.com/i-hope-i-was-on-the-good-list http://wltlradio.posterous.com/i-hope-i-was-on-the-good-list

Dear Santa,

I know that your elves can’t manufacture music for all my favorite artists, but all I want for my holiday gifts are some new albums in 2012 from my favorite bands.  I’ll give reasons for why each artists needs to produce new material if you need any more convincing.

1.       Radiohead- When they announced The King of Limbs a week before the release date I was more than ecstatic.  Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood and the rest of the gang have been my favorite band (by so freakin’ far) for a few years now and the almost four year wait from In Rainbows to The King of Limbs was agonizing, to say the least.  So how was I rewarded for my patience? An 8 song, sub-40 minute album. Despite the new material being relatively good, there just wasn’t enough of it.  I need more.  RIGHT NOW.

2.       Tool- Their most recent album, 10,000 Days was released in 2006 and for the past couple of years there has been mysterious rumors floating around of a new prog-rock epic from Tool.  Once again, it’s been much too long and my Tool fix needs to be satisfied before my withdrawals get any worse.

3.       Brand New- One of my favorite bands for the last couple of years.  Brand New’s last angst-filled record was put on shelves in 2008, but no word of recent Brand New activity has hit the internet. (aside from a west coast and UK tour) Words cannot describe how badly I need Jesse Lacey to grace my inner ear with a new downer (he doesn’t exactly make happy music) of an album.

4.       Queens of the Stone Age- Josh Homme and company have, thus far, spent 2011 touring in support of the re-release of their original self-titled album.  I suppose that’s kinda cool, but I need QotSA to disease me with some new filth, courtesy of Josh Homme’s lackadaisical style of making music.

5.       LCD Soundsystem- I really shouldn’t even have to explain this one.  Just please, James Murphy, don’t stop making music with LCD Soundsystem.  PLEASE COME BACK.

Sincerely,

Alex Roman- Imaging Director

P.S.- Throw me a bone here.

Mon, 28 Nov 2011 10:37:55 -0800 Happy Thanksgiving! http://wltlradio.posterous.com/happy-thanksgiving-54141 http://wltlradio.posterous.com/happy-thanksgiving-54141 From Evan Boyd

Hey there WLTL!

It's Evan Boyd here. Now that the holiday's are springing up, it is time to give thanks, shop shop shop, and think about Christmas stuff. I know, Christmas is coming up. It's awesome. Except the LITE has been playing Christmas music since the end of Halloween. Which is awful. There needs to be Thanksgiving music so this doesn't happen.

So what has made us "give thanks" for the last Thursday of November? Well, the modern Thanksgiving holiday originates from a 1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation, where the Plymouth settlers held a harvest feast after a successful growing season. This was continued in later years, first as an observation for religion, and later became a civil tradition. Abraham Lincoln made it a national holiday on November 26th during the Civil War. It later just became the last Thursday of November since 1941.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holiday’s because everyone is given a good meal. Most communities have annual food drives that collect non-perishable packaged and canned foods for the less fortunate, and corporations as well sponsor charitable distributions of staple foods and Thanksgiving dinners.

Anyways, what's also coming up is the holiday walk in downtown LaGrange on December 3rd from 5 to 9. WLTL will be at the holiday walk with bumper stickers and candy, as well as collecting money for the Salvation army. Come join us to show your support for WLTL and our community.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. Be sure to give thanks for the wonderful gifts you have.
